Capturing the Times of Oklahoma
 A Public Dedication Service - November 11, 2009, at 10:00 a.m.

A special recognition and dedication of the building renewal was held inside the church building and a
program was conducted by Museum volunteers and several area Primitive Baptist Church leaders to
recognize the faithful Salvation Efforts of the church congregation - and the most recent members were all
present during the program.

The morning service included a welcome by Sandra Voskuhl, President of the Frontier Country Historical
Society; a prayer by Elder McCarthy, and singing of some old and meaningful hymns by members of the
Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The history the Shiloh Primitive Baptist
Church was read by Elder Allen Daniels. (See
the next page for this historical account of the church).

This special service was attended by many friends, Museum volunteers, and former members of the local
church.

The year was 1893 when a dedicated group of faithful believers gathered together to form a congregation
known as the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church, in what was a much smaller town of Crescent, Oklahoma.  It
was during the years between the Land Run of 1889, while Oklahoma was still a Territory.

Following its organization in 1893, the Church met in the homes of members until such time that the land
was purchased and a building - the first dedicated church structure in Crescent - was erected in the year
1902, possibly making it the oldest Primitive Baptist Church building still in use within the State of Oklahoma.

A few major changes were made in the original building since 1902, such as the addition of a kitchen in 1968
and more recently the relocation of the entire church building from where it originally stood on the east side
of Crescent, to its present location on the grounds of the FRONTIER COUNTRY MUSEUM, which took place
in May of 2008.

Visitors who come to the Museum will especially want to arrange a tour to visit the Shiloh Primitive Baptist
Church. Both are located at 500 North Grand in Crescent, at the junction of State Hwy 74 and 74C.  For
more information, phone the Museum at 405-969-3660.

The Museum hours are on Tuesdays - Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday, from 1:00 -
4:00 p.m.  The Museum is closed on Mondays.

The Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church building was
physically moved in May of 2008, from its location
in Crescent, OK, to its present location near the
Frontier Country Museum.

Since that move, the Church building has
undergone an extensive restoration effort so that
it will continue to see future use as a living history
legacy.
